Seizures

Absence Seizure-

Absence seizures- may have staring spells, lip smacking, finger movements, eye blinking. If noted, time seizure. Follow Seizure Action Plan for care & emergency protocol including emergency medications. Notify school nurse/trained staff; notify parent

General Seizures

Time seizure, ease to floor; If wheelchair, secure chair & protect head. Remove hazards, put on side; use emergency meds/treatments if ordered. Call 1st-aid/CPR staff. Call 911 if over 5 min or emergency meds used. If no plan on file, call 911 immediately.

Information from another district with no seizure action plan

Imported another district. No info to JCPS. If sx: time it, ease student to floor, remove hazards, turn on side, use emergency meds if ordered based on plan. Call designated staff, call 9-1-1 if over 5 mins or emergency med used.
